Canções 18 is a chronicle of a breakthrough after a long fallow period. Its title refers both to my wife's heritage and to an obsession with Antônio Jobim and João Gilberto at the time.

Many stars aligned for these to materialize. Safe to say, however, the cycle was kickstarted after Chris Wood arranged a collaboration with John Ralston. Working with John in his studio rekindled something long dormant, and I'm grateful to both for that gift.

Other general thanks must go to: Carlos Mitil, for mega-generosity with some lovely gear; Ian Joseph Jones for being as good a friend as he is a drummer (which is saying something about both--and for his photography: everything you see is his). And to Eleonor: muse, manager, queen of everything. Everything falls short: thank you.

All songs recorded, mixed, mastered by ES except "Never Given the Time, "Queen of Everything," "Bad Year," and "Friend of a Friend of a Friend," which were mastered by Jason NeSmith at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Athens, Ga.

Finally, want to give special recognition to our late buddy Chris. In addition to helping me begin writing these songs, his presence was everywhere in their recording. With one exception, every guitar, pedal, and amp you hear was Woody's. It was his idea to set up a studio at Memorial Presbyterian in the beginning of summer of 2019, and his hand was on every bit of logistics through the finish. Though galactic ice castle didn't make it on tape here, Chris's warm camaraderie is in their very fabric. They're another installment in the long list of testaments to Chris's innate generosity of spirit...and generosity of gear. Woody forever.
